Born in California, Norbert Wu was inspired during his family vacations to Florida to become a marine biologist. After earning an engineering degree from Stanford University in 1983, Norbert worked as a research diver at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama. There, he gained his first experiences using an underwater camera, a passion he pursued upon returning to the United States. Wu went on to graduate school and work in engineering, but later left to focus his work as an independent undersea photographer. Wu continues to have an impressive award-winning career, producing documentary films, children’s books, photography books, and advocating on behalf of marine issues.
