Daniel Kim

Daniel S. Kim, 22, from Great Neck, NY, graduated from Cornell University in December 2022 with a B.S. in Biological Sciences and a minor in Marine Biology. Daniel is an aspiring physician, currently in the process of applying to medical school. While his innate desire to help and comfort patients in clinical settings called him towards a career in medicine, he maintains an interest and commitment to the underwater world.

It all began in 2016 when Daniel took his first breath through a regulator in Maui. Since then, Daniel has logged more than 500 dives and continued his education, with Master Scuba Diver and Cave I Diver topping his list of certifications.

During his time in undergrad, Daniel spent each summer at Shoals Marine Laboratory where he immersed himself in the study of marine biology. He earned the status of an AAUS Scientific Diver and subsequently helped teach the course last summer as a Teaching Assistant.

Daniel seeks to connect his love for diving and his passion for medicine. Currently, he works at the University of Pennsylvania’s Emergency Department to expand on the 3000 hours he worked as an EMT. He also splits his time in the University’s Hyperbaric Chamber, ‘diving’ five days a week and immersing himself in the fascinating science of dive medicine.

Daniel is thrilled and honored to have been selected as DAN’s safety intern. He hopes to expand upon his knowledge of diving safety and begin his journey to make a difference in diving and medicine.
