Anna Krylova

Anna Krylova, 22, is a marine scientist pursuing interests in behavioral ecology, conservation, and innovative storytelling.

In 2024, she earned her Master of Science in Marine Biology from Northeastern University’s intensive Three Seas Program. This grad program took her from Massachusetts to Panama and Washington, where she became an AAUS scientific diver studying and exploring these diverse habitats. For her graduate thesis, she partnered with Stanford University’s Goldbogen Lab and Cascadia Research Collective to investigate humpback whale and sea lion foraging dynamics along California’s coast. Anna is hoping to continue researching marine megafauna as she begins her early career as a scientist pulling from all she learned during her thesis project.

She previously completed her B.S. in Marine Biology with a Photojournalism minor at Northeastern University, as well. Anna is interested in integrating her photography and art with her science to aid in science communication and public engagement. While an undergrad, she interned at the Marine Biological Laboratory photographing cuttlefish camouflage patterns and aiding in cephalopod husbandry.

Outside academia, Anna spent nearly a decade as a competitive sailor before pursuing scuba diving, which led her to embrace underwater photography. She has enjoyed exploring and introducing the underwater world to her friends and family and is excited to continue fostering curiosity in others. Looking ahead, Anna plans to obtain her Rescue Diver and Divemaster certifications to expand her capacity for handson conservation work and public action. As the 2025 DAN Outreach Intern, Anna is eager to develop a stronger marketing expertise to help foster stronger connections between the public and our oceans.
