Madeleine W Hatfield grew up in a small coastal town in New England and is pursuing her B.S. in marine, estuarine and freshwater biology at the University of New Hampshire. Earning her Open Water Scuba certification in 2024 in the Gulf of Maine opened her eyes to a whole new world beneath the surface that she had spent her life surrounded by. This drove her to pursue her Master Scuba Diver certification as well as her American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS) scientific diver certification in 2025.
Since then, she has worked with Piscataqua Region Estuaries Partnership (PREP) on a variety of projects, including eelgrass monitoring. Her goal is to continue to pursue the curiosity she has for the ocean and communicate those findings through her other passion, art. Madeleine is extremely excited to apply this curiosity as this year’s AAUS Mitchell Scientific Diving Research Intern and looks forward to gaining more experience in her diving career.
